The Midas touch
You probably know the story: King Midas was granted his wish for everything he touched to turn to gold. At first he enjoy this power, but when his food, drink, and even his daughter all turned to gold, he realized he had made a mistake and begged to have his power removed.

The part of the story that you might not know is that it was Dionysus, the Greek god of wine and ecstasy, that granted Midas this power. While the surface level moral of the story reflects the downfall of pursuing money, in its original telling the fact that Dionysus gave this cursed power was also meant to be a lesson: that wine was a gift to be enjoyed in moderation. It was a metaphor for the fact that some alcohol can be good, but too much will ruin you.
