The Commission of the American Mafia
During Prohibition, The Commission was the governing body for organized crime in America. Established in 1931 by “Lucky” Luciano, it consisted of the five major Italian families, the Chicago Outfit (aka the Chicago Mob), and at times smaller families from places like Buffalo, Detroit, or Philadelphia. Its purpose was to ensure communication between the Mafia groups and act as a judge and mediator for any conflicts that arose among the families.
