First mechanical ice maker
Alexander Twining was awarded US Patent 10221 in 1853 for the first mechanical ice maker. It was another 3 years until he developed the first commercial refrigeration system. However mechanically produced ice wouldn’t become mainstream for another 60 or so years, due to the ice makers being about the size of an entire room.
